Agriculture is an important contributor to the Tasmanian economy. The direct farm gate contribution of agriculture is around 5% of Gross State Product and 6% of total state employment. When agriculture’s post farm gate activity is added, the contribution to the economy increases to 16% of Gross State Product and 20% of state employment.
Our agriculture industry is a major contributor to our regional communities. Tasmania Women in Agriculture members contribute in a diverse way to the sector whether it is living and working in our rural communities, or a direct contributor as a producer, employee, service provider etc. We are a sustainable industry that will continue to have an important role in our state's future.

Did you know that around 20 children under 15 years are fatally injured on an Australian farm every year and many more are hospitalised or treated by general practitioners across rural Australia (Source: Farmsafe Australia visit www.farmsafe.org.au).

Farmers have asked for seasonal forecasting products and the Bureau of Meteorology have been working with the national Managing Climate Variability (MCV) program to make seasonal forecasts more reliable, more useful and more accessible to farmers. Two new educational products have been launched www.managingclimate.gov.au. The Managing Climate website can provide farmers with practical tools to incorporate climate information into farm business decisions.
